The Industrial Mathematics KTN and maidsafe.net limited (http://www.maidsafe.net) are seeking an academic partner and a PhD student with an expertise in distributed networking for an Industrial Mathematics Internship.
Please forward this to colleagues and PhD students who might be interested.
maidsafe(Troon): Distributed Networking (cloud) Opportunity ( http://tinyurl.com/2ejofny )
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is offered as a six month PhD internship. However, the company is in an early growth phase and so a successful internship could well result in the offer of a permanent position at MaidSafe upon completion of the intern's PhD studies.
Project Description
------------------------
Imagine having everything you need - mail, instant messaging, photos, music, videos, contacts, documents and your diary, in one place, on one screen! That is MaidSafe's vision and goal. We are currently in a testing phase of our launch product and expect this to go live in the next two months.
To help us continue this development, this internship project will consist of the following:
- Investigate and understand distributed peer-to-peer protocols, particularly kademlia. We expect this to lead to simulation of the network in omnet/oversim in order that performance vs stability can be modelled for a range of different network parameters.
- Use Bayesian mathematics to simulate account measurement.
- Provide development with tests in pseudo code and API signatures to implement this as a black box solution.
Which parts of the company will the Intern become familiar with?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
There is a graduate program in place where the candidate will become familiar with, accounts, investments, product placement, marketing, board presentations as well as many technical areas of the business (testing, design, implementation design, development, agile development (scrum) etc.)
Industrial supervisor: Dan Schmidt.
Company size: 8 employees.
Duration of the project: 6 months.
Company location: Troon, Ayrshire, Scotland.
Person Specification
-------------------------
The ability to understand and learn C++ is essential. Some familiarity with algorithmics and statistical analysis in random systems would be very advantageous. We are most interested in deep thinkers and people who can challenge the norm.
Situated in the quaint village of Troon on the beautiful Clyde Coast, MaidSafe offers the successful candidate the opportunity to work with highly motivated, highly capable professionals in a dynamic, fun-loving multicultural environment.
