_PhD (based in Edinburgh): Wildlife disease distribution in the EU_
The project will have access to the WildTech database containing the
infection screening results for wildlife samples from across the EU.
Using statistical modelling the project aims to explore and demonstrate
the epidemiological power of the surveillance system. This project is an
opportunity for a candidate wishing to develop a research career in
epidemiology and would suit someone with an interest in wildlife
ecology, well-developed quantitative skills and some statistical
modelling experience. Experience of GIS would also be an advantage.
_Further Details_
The student will benefit from a lively and supportive environment for
statistical and mathematical research stimulated by close links with
biological scientists. BioSS is one of the leading European research
groups in the application of mathematics and statistics in the
biological sciences, and both SAC and BioSS are partners in a new
collaborative Centre of Excellence in veterinary epidemiology. UoY is
one of the UK's leading research Universities, and the Environment
Department's research on sustainable solutions to environmental problems
is internationally recognised. For more information on SAC, BioSS and
UoY please visit our web sites at http://www.sac.ac.uk and
