The Centre for Social Policy Research (University of Bremen) is seeking to appoint three PhD researchers at 65 per cent of a full‐time position (German public service pay grade 13 TV‐L), starting from 1st February 2011, for three years.
They are looking for English native speakers who are also fluent in German, and have some knowledge of social science research methods, so in most cases will have studied sociology or a related discipline, at least as a minor subject.

The Centre for Social Policy Research (University of Bremen) seeks to appoint
Three researchers (research in combination with the completion of a PhD)
Payment/work hours 65 per cent of a full‐time position
(German public service pay grade 13 TV‐L)
starting from 1st February 2011 (for three years)
‐ pending final confirmation of the post‐
Responsibilities:
Collaboration within the independent Emmy Noether Research group on “Paid work beyond retirement
in Germany and Britain” (funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG)), in one of the three subprojects:
‐ Paid employment in retirement – quantitative analysis of secondary data
‐ biographical significance of paid employment in retirement
‐ concepts of justice in collective discourses and welfare state regulations around work, (old) age and old age provision
The completion of a PhD thesis within the subject of the project is expected.
Essential requirements:
‐ Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Sociology, Social Sciences, Political Sciences or a related discipline
‐ Very good knowledge of quantitative research methods (in particular longitudinal analyses) or of
qualitative methods of empirical research
‐ Fluency in German and English (at least CEF‐level B2)
Desired requirements:
‐ Knowledge in research areas relevant to the project (for example life course, age and ageing, social
policy, labour markets, research comparing societies)
‐ Experience in the analysis of quantitative data (in particular longitudinal), or in applying qualitative
research methods.
