FYI from Jane Campbell
Colin
here is an extract from the Times reporting Lord Judge's comments on confirming the guilty verdict on Frances Inglis:
The most senior judge in England and Wales said the case was a "tragedy" and "one of the most difficult" to come before the Court of Appeal. But he ruled that mercy-killing was murder and that the current law did not distinguish between "murder committed for malevolent reasons and murder motivated by familial love". The life of Thomas Inglis "could not lawfully be extinguished", Lord Judge said. "A disabled life, even a life lived at the extremes of disability, is not one jot less precious than the life of an able-bodied person."
Dygnity in Dying's response has been to coin yet another soundbite - that "the murder law isn't equipped for compassion". I would have thought a sentence of five years was just that!
With Good Wishes
