Applications are invited for a Research Associate to work in the Health
Economic
and Decision Science (HEDS) section within the School of Health and Related
Research (ScHARR). You will primarily be involved in providing support to on a
Medical Research Council (MRC) funded research project dealing with Methods of
Extrapolating RCT (Randomised Controlled Trials) Evidence for Economic
Evaluation.
The project is a collaboration between researchers at the Universities of
Sheffield, York and Leicester, and the MRC Biostatistics Unit, Cambridge. The
research will involve contributing to a review of the scientific literature and
NICE (National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence) technology
appraisals, critically appraising extrapolation methods used within and outside
of clinical trials, contributing to the development of a taxonomy of
extrapolation methods, and assessing the properties of different methods by
applying them to a variety of case studies. You will work with senior health
economists and statisticians during the project, and will be involved in the
dissemination of findings at scientific conferences and in peer-reviewed
journals.
In addition to the activities in support of the MRC funded research project,
you
will provide statistical support to other HEDS research and consultancy
projects, including health technology appraisals, through evidence synthesis
using specialist Bayesian statistical methodology.
Applicants should have a Masters degree in statistics, mathematics or
operational research with a particular interest in the application of Bayesian
methods. A PhD degree is desirable (or equivalent experience).
This post is fixed-term for 18 months, and is available immediately.
