Dear Colleagues,
As a youth and community worker before I became a librarian I have been
interested for a long time in applying the skills used by youth and
community workers to librarianship in academic institutions.
I have for many years gone out and visited my academic staff in their space
to discuss their research interests and how I might assist them better with
their aims and objectives. Working alongside them to meet shared aims and
objectives.
Lately Glamorgan has supported myself and another colleague to expand
this in an effort to take the actual library Help and Support services out
to the staff, students, and researchers by doing surgery sessions in various
academic buildings at the same time every week.
We would like to know if anyone else is using this approach, or anything
like it, and if they are would they be prepared to share information on how
they have gone about it and whether it has been successful or not and what
things they have learned from their interactions out in the academic
community.
(For those who might be interested I hope to write up details of the first
18 months of the project next year in the SCONUL Focus.)
If you are doing anything at all similar please email me back or give me a
buzz on 01443 483391.
Cheers
Steve
