I've tried both.
Bristol is clunky, Survey Monkey much more intuitive.
Didn't get as far as running a survey on Bristol as a particular question type and validation wasn't possible.
Caroline Jarrett (http://www.effortmark.co.uk/) ran a session on online surveys at the HCI conference in Dundee about a month ago. She's in the process of writing a book. It might be worth asking her opinion, as I believe choice of tool will be part of what she covers.
