If you want to be nice to the programming people (which I always
recommend :) you may want to call it it a side effect, as also detailed
in John's original post

As such, John does not seem overly worried about it, as it seems to be
overcome by smoothing prior to doing your analyses. In that case,
perhaps you should not be either :)
