Dear Roisin Donnelly,

I was particularly interested to see that my friend Wim Gijselaers on behalf
of Business and Economics
is to be one of your key speakers.
With regard to the Conference Theme 'Researching and Developing the PBL
Curriculum',
I wonder whether you and your colleagues are familiar with our publication
on the Web:
"A Whole System Approach to Problem-Based Learning in Dental, Medical and
Veterinary Sciences - A Guide to Important Variables"
http://www.campus.manchester.ac.uk/ceebl/resources/guides/pblsystemapproach_v1.pdf ?
This offers illustrative examples of some 13 variables which influence the
acceptability, effectiveness and sustainability of curricula, based on PBL
and thus variables which ought to be considered when researching the
advantages/disadvantages of PBL in higher education.

With best wishes Charles Engel
