Hi Tony.
Not sure of the date, but I am fairly certain that an electric winder was
installed at Franks shaft Of Giew mine (St. Ives Consolidated), Franks shaft
also had electric air compressor & electric driven pit-work driving the
existing plunger pole pumps in the shaft (They also had their own power
generating station using diesel engines).
The same company had an electric winder at East Virgin shaft around 1909.
Lady Gwendolen mine, Lady Katherine shaft also had an electric winder &
electrically driven pit-work.
Tresavean had an electric driven air compressor (a converted vertical steam
engine driven by electric motor.....was originally a steam driven
alternator)
Mt. Wellington mine, Robinsons shaft had an electric winder.
South Phoenix also had a small electric winder (around 1908 / 1909)
And of coarse Wethered shaft at Geevor had an electric winder circa 1920
(which was still there in 1996, when I last saw it)
Just as a matter of interest Wheal Vor was using electric sinking pumps in
1906 (steam driven power generation), & Wheal Cock (Botallack) were using
electric sinking pumps in 1907 (Gas engine driven power generation)
Hope this is of help.
Regards, Bob Orchard.

Subject: Winder history
Hi List
I need to design an interpretation panel for the King Edward Mine here in
Cornwall briefly telling the story of man and rock hoisting. To this end I
am after the answers to the following:
1. Where and when was the first steam whim erected and, where and when was
the first one erected in Cornwall?
2. Similarly, where and when was the first horizontal steam winder erected
and, where and when was the first one erected in Cornwall?
3. Finally, where and when was the first horizontal electric winder
erected and, where and when was the first one erected in Cornwall?
Any contributions (preferably with references) would be appreciated.
