Introduction to Qualitative Research Methods
10-14 January 2011
This one week course is aimed at health professionals, researchers and
postgraduate students with little or no understanding of qualitative
research methods. It aims to provide hands on practical experience of
different qualitative methods including in-depth interviewing, focus
groups and ethnography. It is particularly suited for people who are
starting work on a project with a qualitative dimension, doctoral
students at the beginning of their projects or those who are thinking
about using qualitative research methods. Cost: £975
Introduction to Qualitative Interviewing
10-11 March 2011 and 15-16 September 2011
This two day course is aimed at researchers who have little or no
experience of qualitative interviewing. Everyone is welcome, regardless
of research background. Previous courses have attracted researchers
from the health service, clinicians and social scientists. The only
requirements are an interest in qualitative interviewing and the desire
to conduct better interviews. The course aims to provide hands on
practical experience of different qualitative interviewing. Cost: £390
Analysing Qualitative Interviews
28-29 April 2011 and 3-4 November 2011
This two day course is aimed at researchers who are planning to
undertake or manage qualitative research using in-depth or semi
structured interviews or those who have already collected qualitative
interview data which they are unsure how to analyse. Cost: £390
Introduction to Focus Groups
6 May 2011 and 31 October 2011
This one day course is aimed at health professionals, researchers and
postgraduate students who want to develop skills in organising and
facilitating focus groups and in analysing focus group data. The course
is suitable for those with little or no understanding of focus group
method as well as those wishing to review and broaden existing skills.

Presenting Qualitative Data at Conferences
7-8 July 2011
This two day course is aimed at researchers with little or no
experience of presenting at conferences. A very practical course which
aims to develop participants’ skills and confidence in designing and
delivering a presentation based on their research. Numbers are limited
to allow maximum time for individual feedback. Cost: £450
Introduction to Qualitative Secondary Analysis
10-11 November 2011
This two day course is aimed at researchers who are interested in the
possibility of reusing data from existing qualitative studies to
investigate new topics. It will look at the benefits and challenges of
secondary analysis which may often involve data collected by other
researchers for different purposes. Cost: £390
