I'm with Karen, since my country parish doesn't do the Sarum Rite much
(what a lovely thought!) but surely antiphons (as opposed to Propers)
were part of the Offices, not the Mass. The book called Antiphoner is
certainly a book for offices, not masses.
The Antiphoner of mine I offered is Roman, not Sarum; they will probably
be similar, but...
Since yr borrower asks for "music", it might be worth mentioning that
the Antiphoner doesn't only contain antiphons! It has hymns,
responsories, etc as well!,
and covers the offices of Vespers, Lauds, Terce, Sext, None separately.
There is a lot of reference to music printed elsewhere, under other
feasts, so you may need several books after all. oh joy!
Now,
Frere is in 6v. and I don't see why your borrower doesn't mean what he
says, so the Sandon (great work tho' it is) is a red herring here.
BUT - help is at hand - there is advertised as a publication of the
Plainsong and Mediaeval Music Society, an index to Frere:
ed. Lila Collamore and Joseph P. Metzinger
Frere’s Index to the Antiphons of the Sarum Antiphoner, Plainsong and
Mediaeval Music Society, 1990, 75 pages;
a companion to the facsimile of the Sarum Antiphoner
the PMMS website offers this at £3.00, yes three pounds! Surely a
bargain for yr borrower, who can thereby determine which vol. has what.
PMMS publications are available from The Royal School of Church Music,
whose address is The Cathedral Close, Salisbury -
where else forthe Sarum rite! Perhaps yr borrower might like to drive
over, if he's in Winchester; they're very hospitable if you ring first.
