Dear All,
I am emailing members of the EGRG as one of our officer posts (Treasurer) on the Committee has become vacant. Martin Hess has served three years in this role and the Committee would like to express their thanks for all the hard work he has put into the Group.
Further to Al James's email a couple of weeks ago (in his capacity as Secretary), we have received expressions of interest in the position of Treasurer. Since more than one person has approached the group, following our normal practice we have will have an election.
Below are two short statements from the candidates standing. MEMBERS of the EGRG are eligible to VOTE FOR ONE CANDIDATE, by EMAIL. Votes should be sent to Al James at [log in to unmask]
In terms of voting anonymously I would remind you all NOT TO REPLY TO THIS MESSAGE when voting.
The closing date for Al to receive votes is Thursday 4 November.
Best wishes,
Andrew

DR JENNIFER JOHNS
Lecturer in Management and International Business (teaching economic geography!!) University of Liverpool Management School (since August 2010).
I previously held positions in Department of Geography, University of Liverpool and the School of Geography, University of Manchester.
I have the necessary skills to be the EGRG treasurer: the capability to handle figures and budgets, to allocate awards based on sound judgements of qualifying criteria with the EGRG committee, and to be contactable for advice. I have previous experience working with project budgets (ESRC, British Academy etc). The current climate will present some challenges to funding for us all, but as Treasurer I will seek to help to continue the valuable work of the EGRG, particularly in supporting postgraduates and those in early career.

DR MARK GRAHAM
I am currently a Research Fellow at the University of Oxford’s Internet Institute and was previously a Lecturer in Human Geography at Trinity College Dublin. My work has focused on the ways in which information and communication technologies are reshaping economic geographies, particularly in low-income countries. Specifically, my research has looked at both discourses of expected change (e.g. hopes that technologies will reshape value chains in the global periphery) as well as the actual observed effects of altered communications practices on flows of trade.
I have over twenty publications, have presented at over thirty conferences and workshops and have had my work featured in over twenty-five media outlets around the world (including The Guardian, The Economist and The New York Times). My current position as a Research Fellow at the Oxford Internet Institute will enable me to devote a significant amount of energy to serving as the EGRG Treasurer and will additionally provide an increased amount of visibility for economic geography in the interdisciplinary milieu of our institute. My CV and a full list of publications is available at: http://geospace.co.uk/resume/MarkGraham.pdf
