Papers are invited for a special issue of International Gambling Studies that focuses on Internet Gambling for publication in December, 2011. Internet gambling is an increasingly popular mode of gambling worldwide and has resulted in substantial changes to the global gambling market with a dramatic increase in the availability and revenue of Internet gambling sites. Due to the virtual nature of this mode of gambling, including the use of electronic payment methods, cross jurisdictional access and potential anonymity of providers and players, Internet gambling has presented many challenges and opportunities to regulators, policy makers, operators and consumers. The increased recognition of the importance and potential impact of Internet gambling, including mobile and interactive gambling, is resulting in an increase in research and policy responses on this issue. However, there is still relatively little known about the nature of, participation in and the impact of Internet gambling worldwide.
Accordingly, you are invited to submit a manuscript on any theoretical, conceptual or empirical perspective related to the social, political, cultural or economic aspects of Internet gambling. The purpose of the Special Edition is to bring together scholarly and critically analytic articles focusing on, but not limited to, the following topics related to Internet gambling:
• Policy responses to Internet gambling
• Economics of Internet gambling including revenue and taxation
• Impact of Internet gambling on existing gambling operators
• Social, cultural, philosophical and ideological perspectives of Internet gambling including cross-cultural comparisons
• The influence of Internet gambling on various aspects of society and specific populations
• The impact of specific forms of Internet gambling
• Internet gambling and the law
• The relationship between Internet gambling and social media
• The marketing of Internet gambling
• Relation between Internet gambling and problem gambling
• Corporate Social Responsibility and responsible gambling options for Internet gambling
• Appropriate research methods for Internet gambling
Authors are invited to submit a preliminary abstract for comment to the Special Edition Editors Alex Blaszczynski & Sally Gainsbury ([log in to unmask]). Final papers should be submitted online at the International Gambling Studies ScholarOne Manuscript site (http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/rigs) by June 1st, 2011. Articles around 6,000 words should be in English and conform to the APA reference style. All authors must confirm at submission that they take full responsibility for the scientific content of the article and that the manuscript is not also under consideration with another journal or previously published (including reports freely available on the Internet). Submissions will be subject to a blind review. Authors should refer to the author’s guide on the International Gambling Studies website (http://www.tandf.co.uk/journals/rigs) for full details on manuscript submission.
Sincerely,
Alex Blaszczynski & Sally Gainsbury
