CALL FOR SESSION ORGANIZERS

Deadline for submissions: October 15, 2010

Submission address: [log in to unmask]

The organisers of the 2011 RC21 Annual Conference are inviting
expressions of interest from colleagues willing to act as session
organizers. We invite you to send in session proposals before October
15th, 2010.

CONFERENCE THEME

The RC21 2011 Conference will analyze how globalization and
individualization have given rise to new forms of diversity – ethnic,
religious, gender, sexual, class and otherwise – and new deliberations
and conflicts over citizenship and belonging in urban settings in both
the Global South and North. We want to know how people with diverse
backgrounds locate themselves and others in new social hierarchies, how
they struggle to create meaningful places, in what ways they develop
strategies to belong, and with what consequences. Moreover, we aim to
understand better what types of (new) policy responses and governance
forms have developed to manage diversity in urban settings.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF SESSION ORGANIZERS

Session organizers are responsible for one or more sessions (the total
number of sessions will depend on the total number of abstracts
submitted and selected).

Session organizers participate in the selection process of abstracts
submitted for presentation within their session. Session organizers
will rank all abstracts submitted for the respective session (the
review will have to be done in the second half of December/early
January 2011). Final decisions on the number of sessions and the
acceptance of papers will be made by local organisers.

Session organizers together with local organisers supervise the
deadlines for full paper submission.

Session organizers chair their respective session(s).

Session organizers are responsible for the further organization of the
session, such as finding one or more discussants (obligatory!).

POSSIBLE SESSION THEMES

Sessions can be organised within any sub-area of the field of RC21, but
preferably with a link to the general theme of the conference. In order
to secure an even coverage of the field, we attempt to cover as many
themes as possible. Session proposals should be outlined in a way which
allows submissions from different disciplinary backgrounds.

In addition to the normal sessions where papers will be presented and
discussed, there is room for a limited number of other activities such
as Author-meets-Critics sessions. Proposal for such sessions should be
submitted by October 15 as well.

IMPORTANT

All sessions have to be organised as open sessions. No session shall be
limited to members of an existing project network.

Session organizers themselves shall not submit abstracts to their own
sessions.

Only one abstract submission per participant is allowed. Exceptions
might be made for co-authored papers.

WHAT A SESSION PROPOSAL SHOULD LOOK LIKE

A session proposal must include:

o A session title;
o A short description of the topic, including a description of the
types of papers that you expect to receive (max 300 words). The themes
should link to the conference topic or to the overall objectives of RC21;
o Full contact details of the session organizer/s (with a maximum of
two organizers per session): Name/s, affiliation, postal address, phone
number, e-mail.

Please send submissions to the following e-mail address: [log in to unmask]

The local organising team will send out information about the
acceptance of proposals no later than October 30th, 2011. The call for
papers will be launched on October 31th.
