Frequently characterised as 'racial riots', the uprisings of the 1980s in Bristol, Brixton, Toxteth and Moss Side were significant reactions to the politics of late twentieth century Britain. This event will bring together a panel of witnesses to offer a range of memories about the uprisings and to reflect on their context and legacy. The audience will have an opportunity to share their own memories and to discuss the socio-historical background to these events.
The event will be followed by a reception which will finish at 9.00pm.
Chair:
Dr. Gail Lewis
The panel:
Linda Bellos OBE
Wally Brown CBE
Kunle Olulode
Prof. Louis Kushnick, Emeritus, OBE
Dr. Anandi Ramamurthy
Sean Creighton
