The annual BCLA Graduate Reception takes place next Tuesday, 26
October, in Room G35 of Senate House, Malet Street WC1 (ground floor
of Senate House south block) beginning at 5.30 pm.
There will be three short papers by young scholars, followed by
questions and discussion, and the evening will end with a drinks
reception. Full details are appended below.

5:30 - 5:45: Introduction by Dr Elinor Shaffer FBA and welcome by
Prof. Robert Weninger (KCL) on behalf of the British Comparative
Literature Association (BCLA)
5:50 - 6:10: Georgia Panteli (UCL) 'Postmodern/Posthuman Pinocchios'
'My research focuses on postmodern retellings of Pinocchio, some of
which are rather posthuman. In my talk I will explain how I connect
Pinocchio to cyborgs, following the literary history of the
animate/inanimate archetype, of which Pinocchio is a vital part.'
6:15 - 6:35: Eleni Mouatsou (Birmingham) 'Gender Performance and the
Body in Kiki Dimoula and Emily Dickinson'
6:40 - 7:00: Dr Mi Zhou (UCL) 'Listening in Literature'
'My paper begins with E.M. Forster's reflections on the aspects of
pattern, rhythm and voice in novels, and speculates on the
possibilities of a literary criticism based upon listening rather than
reading.'
7:00 - 7:20: Questions & discussion
