Dear Colleague,
The British Psychological Society Special Group in Coaching Psychology has a reputation for producing a high quality and engaging conference each year. This year we are collaborating with other coaching psychology bodies around the world to bring a bigger event to those interested in coaching psychology; one which will span the globe: The 1st International Congress in Coaching Psychology. The congress will consist of a series of events taking place in different parts of the world, including Australia. Other coaching psychology bodies involved include those in Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Ireland, South Africa, New Zealand, and the Society for Coaching Psychology in the UK.
The first event will be a conference hosted by SGCP on 14th and 15th December 2010 at City University. City University is in a central London location, and new facilities and layout within the university make this an ideal venue for this event.

The impact of the findings from the congress will have far reaching implications for coaches, coaching psychologists,
organisations, and the public in areas such as health, education and business performance. The international focus of the congress will also provide the opportunity for the attendees to start, continue, and facilitate professional collaboration beyond geographical borders.
We are proud to be working together with our European and International partners, and we see this collaboration as an example of the commitment around the world to the development of this area of practice and research.
Please see below messages from two co-convenors of the international congress as a whole:
Stephen Palmer, Co-convenor, SGCP: "Over the past decade coaching psychology profession has gone from strength to strength. We have seen an increase in the number of professional psychology bodies with their own coaching psychology special groups. The international organisation, the Society for Coaching Psychology has also set up an accreditation and certification scheme for coaching psychologists. In addition there are two peer reviewed coaching psychology publications, both abstracted in psycINFO.
There have been National, European and International coaching psychology conferences and symposia. However, this is the first time the coaching psychology community has come together to run the 1st International Congress of Coaching Psychology event. One aspect that makes it rather special is that the Congress will consist of a series of events run over a 12 month period taking place in different major cities around the world, from London and Dublin to Johannesburg. It promises to put the coaching psychology profession firmly on the global map.
The international steering group co-convenor is Peter Zarris who was there right from the beginning when the International Congress concept was being developed. He has been doing an excellent job bringing together the coaching psychology groups in countries in the Southern Hemisphere."
Peter Zarris, Co-convenor, ICCP: "The development of coaching/coaching psychology as a profession in the coming years will no doubt move forward at a greater pace and the need to have a professional component that provides evidence based solutions, that provides research, and that provides important fundamental skills and professional requirements will be crucial. My deep hope is that the 1st International Congress of Coaching Psychology will bring the community together in not only understanding the latest research and advances in our understanding of what we do, but also in beginning the dialogue globally that will assist us in having the voice and central role that I personally believe we must have in the coaching/coaching psychology profession."
We trust that you and your closer community will greatly benefit from this congress and we are looking forward to welcoming you in December.
Please share this information within your network.
With best wishes,
Judit Varkonyi-Sepp
On behalf of the Congress Organising Committee
