Subject: Charles Parker Archive: Notification of forthcoming Radio Ballad
Hello Everyone,
This is to make you aware that on October 9th and 11th on BBC World Service there will be a Radio Ballad, made by many of the team responsible for the 2006 ballads and the recent one on the Miners' Strike.
Here's the link to the Trust site where we have details. http://www.cpatrust.org.uk/pdf/BALLAD_OF_AFRICA_PROG_INFO.pdf
In addition, I thought the following three links give a contrasting perspective;
From folkroots magazine:
http://froots.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=5461&sid=89775f2e14f68cb15401d8f517921849
and from the Independent newspaper http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/africa/africas-wind-of-change-50-years-on-2089915.html
The Accra Daily Mail has a more local slant;
http://accra-mail.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=24745:50th-anniversary-of-independence-in-nigeria&catid=66:world&Itemid=215
You need to work through the newspaper articles closely. But I think the overall picture gives you a worthwhile feel to the thing.
I can't find anything that gives me a strong link on the BBC World Service website. It's all pretty opaque. Hopefully more clarity nearer the time eh!
If you have any comments please pass them on to me. Also a reminder that the Trust AGM was a week ago and "Friends" subs are due. The minutes of the Friends AGM will be posted on the Trust website in a week or two.
You can contact me at any of the addresses below.
Regards
Ian
