Lifelong Learning UK (LLUK) is undertaking a review of the Information and Library Services, Archives Services and Records Management National Occupational Standards (NOS), working with the sector to ensure that the standards meet the needs of those who use them.  

NOS are practical resource tools with the ability to support staff at every level of the workforce and can be used to support the full range of human resource development activities including performance management, training and development, and recruitment and selection.  Long term benefits can include increased effectiveness, reduced workloads, and a reduction in resource expenditure.

A LAIS NOS Factsheet is available on the LLUK website which provides additional information on the process of revising the current NOS.   

Feedback on the revised draft of the NOS from those working in the sector across the UK is very important so we would encourage anyone from the libraries, archives and information services (LAIS) sector with an interest in refining and shaping the standards to take part.  

There are three ways to get involved:

•	Attend a review event taking place across the UK (Click on the link to register for your place at an event)
o	14 October - Edinburgh 
o	19 October - Llandrindod Wells 
o	22 October - London 
o	26 October - Belfast

The events in England and Wales will also be a chance for us to gain feedback on the proposed new apprenticeship frameworks for LAIS at Levels 2 and 3 which will go live in late December 2010. The aim this part of the events will be to: 
o	Introduce employers and training providers to the new regulations and components of the apprenticeship frameworks
o	Allow employers and training providers to ask questions and seek further clarification 
o	Seek feedback and input on specific parts of the proposals. 
The event in Scotland will also allow for a dialogue on potential demand for and content of a Modern Apprenticeship Framework for the sector in Scotland.  

•	 ‘Host your own’ NOS review event 
This allows you to focus on the content that is of most importance to your activities and could, for example, be carried out as a part of your team meeting. Resources to help you do this will soon be available on our website.

•	Electronic NOS review 
Download a copy of the draft standards and complete our straight-forward questionnaire (Word document), available from the LLUK website from 12th October – 8th November.
