The National Library of Medicine (NLM) Document Type Definition (DTD) has
become pervasive in journal publishing. It seems now that almost everyone is
using the NLM DTD, from individual publishers and suppliers to online
delivery platforms and archives. And yet this versatile and valuable
standard is not limited just to basic journal publishing needs. The NLM DTD
continues to evolve to meet the needs of all scholarly publishers. At this
Technology Update, you will learn how journal publishers of all sizes have
incorporated this standard into their workflow. Speakers will also discuss
new opportunities when working with the NLM DTD, including how the DTD can
be used to meet the needs of vision-impaired readers through accessibility
requirements, multi-lingual publishers using multiple script systems, and
scholarly book publishers.
Who should attend? Production Managers and Directors at journal and book
publishers who already use or are considering adoption of this standard;
Senior Publishing Managers who need to be aware of the implications of NLM
DTD for their work processes; and suppliers involved in content provision to
the scholarly publishing community.
