When I become less peripatetic, I shall get a cat of my own again unless
it has death that has stopped me. I don't think its owner being dead is
fair to a cat
If it's a male, I shall call him Hugh, after Hugh MacDiarmid, and only
ever address him as Chris, except when I am cross or sycophantic or
seeking a favour
A female cat... Denise Levertov is a bit of a mouthful for a cat's name;
but it would please me if not the cat or the vet
Black Cat is a good name. I know a cat I call Ginger Cat. It tries to
stand on its head when I name it. And falls over, purring.

are within a few minutes of death... And I, at any rate, don't propose to
die with polite insincerities in my mouth. "
