While I don't want to pretend that there are enough jobs out there for
every aspiring archivist (I know it ain't so), I fear that the figures of
graduates from ARM courses versus archives positions advertised are
potentially very skewed indeed. They do not take into account:
1) those qualifying in Archives and Records Management who want to work in
*RM*
2) international students who are returning to their home countries to
work, or others who are going to be working abroad
3) part-time students who are studying while already in an established job
4) anyone intending on an academic career (which has already been
mentioned)
All of the above would clearly suffer if there was a moratorium on ARM
qualifications (however achievable it is or isn't).
Feel free to guess how many of the above categories I fall into...
