Yes indeed, a sensible approach, but I would still relish the opportunity of seeing resources first hand,
in visiting and speaking to technical staff and students about systems operate.
Shared experience and dialogue 'around the table' is great, but so is on site experience.
We're particularly interested in how Photography programmes are dealing with digital printing
services - infrastructure/support/costings/equipment ... particularly in institutions where
there is a need for specialist photographic use and more general service support for other programmes.

Very sensible suggestion. We had a refit at BIAD about 5 years ago, but will be moving to a new building in 2013, so have gone through a similar process. Would be happy to host the meeting in Birmingham, if the committee approve.

To all members of APHE
Rather than everyone chasing round the country for this type of information and to ensure sharing of
information on how colleagues and institutions around the country are dealing with resource
changes in photography in light of digital developments and impending cuts. Wouldn't it be better to
arrange an APHE event that could be held early next term and could also have online presence? At MMU
we are preparing for partial new build and I have just gone through quite a lot of negotiations to
hold on to what will be a reduced analogue resource(though still keeping both B+W and colour
darkrooms). I also feel we have to ensure what reports that are developed for senior management
ought to reflect the needs of the subject specialism that we teach and not fall in line with
management need to cut resources. I may be cynical but I would tread carefully. Losing analogue
could endanger a whole philosophical positioning - key in a "post-photography"era.
Forgive me for my passionate response. But let me know what you think.
