and Shein-Chung Chow, two distinguished experts in the area of
clinical trials.
Jay Herson is the founder of the contract research organization
Applied Logic Associates. Under his leadership ALA grew from a solo
consultancy to a 50-person full-service CRO with global capabilities.
Jay has also served on the faculty at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg
School of Public Health and the University of Texas MD Anderson
Cancer Center. Dr. Herson started the first Data Monitoring
Committee (DMC) in the pharmaceutical industry and has chaired
or served on 25 DMC's. He is the author of numerous papers on
statistical methodology andwrote the book "Data and Safety
Monitoring Committees in ClinicalTrials," (Chapman and
Hall/CRC Press, 2009). His 4 week course"Safety Monitoring

Shein-Chung Chow is Professor of Biostatistics and Bioinformatics
at Duke University, where his research has focused on adaptive
design methods in clinical trials, and the assessment of
biosimilarity of follow-on biologics. Dr. Chow has written
a number of books andjournal articles, including “Adaptive
Designs Methods in Clinical Trials” (with Mark Chang),
“Controversial Issues in Clinical Trials” and “Handbook
of Adaptive Designs in Pharmaceutical and Clinical Development”
(with Annpey Pong), all forthcoming in the next 10 months, as
well as “Design and Analysis of Bioavailability and
Bioequivalence Studies” (with Jen-pei Liu, Marcel Dekker, 2000)
“Statistical Design and Analysis of Stability Studies.” He
edited “Encyclopedia of Biopharmaceutical Statistics” (3rd edition).
His 4-week course "Adaptive Designs for Clinical Trials"
