Art and technology collide for new exhibition
Event: Unleashed Devices
When: 10am, Friday 3 September 2010
Where: The Waterman Arts Centre, 40 High Street, Brentford, TW8 0DS
Students from Goldsmiths, University of London, have joined hackers,
designers and artists to form an exciting new exhibition.
‘Unleashed Devices’ features work such as robot-drawing installation,
interactive sculptures and modified toys in what will be an exhibition of
DIY, hacking and open source projects by artists who explore technologies
critically and creatively.
The artists reconstruct, remix and reinvent everyday electronic devices to
shift the vision of the use of data and purpose of technology.
The exhibition is the main event of the London Media Art Network’s autumn
season and it is curated and organized by Irini Papadimitriou, head of New
Media Arts Development at Watermans and Tint.
‘Unleashed Devices’ includes strong representation from Goldsmiths Digital
Studios (GDS) practice-based research students as well as alumni from the
MFA in Computational Studio Arts, including Ryan Jordan, Nanda
Khaorapapong, Alex
McLean, Eunjoo Shin, and it will also feature work by Goldsmiths-based
Patrick T, from the Aikon Project.
The projects combine artistic communication with science and technology,
robotics, computer vision, physical modeling and psychedelic manipulation
techniques.
This event will showcase the GDS potential for transdisciplinary
experimentations to a wide audience in the context of a major public
contemporary art exhibition dedicated to new practices.
The exhibition will run from 3 September to 22 October.
