Thank you for your explanations.
A few remarks:
1. I think it is better to always download the latest version of
spm8.zip instead of updating a prior version of spm8.zip with
spm8_updates_r4010.zip. It's safer, you're certain to have a pristine
installation of the latest SPM.
2. It's might be a question of personnal taste but I think it's a bad
idea to distribute different releases of SPM8 under the same file name
spm8.zip. You could use spm8-4010.zip or even better spm8.3.zip since
Subversion revisions should be seen as an internal engineering issue and
will be lost anyway if you switch to a different version control system.
About the eeprobe directory: It's true we don't need it here but it
could be interesting nevertheless to post compilation instructions for
this directory. I guess it's using libeep?

I will try and install and recompile SPM8 from the latest spm8.zip. I'll
let you know about missing or additional MEX files and the result of
this command:
spm_check_installation full
