Generating axial lines from road-centre lines is easy. This we have done already as "Continuity Lines", "Linear Strokes", "Natural Streets", "Directional Distance", etc.
You just need to create a continuity map with small angles and use some geometrical fixing to "straighten" the lines.
What we really need, and it would be useful for many researchers, is a tool that generates first the road centre-lines from urban blocks and then the axial / continuity maps. In other words, something we could use when we do not have road-centre lines.
Perhaps you could put your team to create this.
