Dear Psci-commers,
This autumn Wellcome Collection and the BBC World Service join forces to
present an exciting series of events, featuring philosopher AC Grayling
in conversation with some of the biggest names in world science. Full
details, including how to book for these free events, can be found on
our website
http://www.wellcomecollection.org/whats-on/events/exchanges-at-the-front
ier-7.aspx and details of the first two events in the series are below:
Exchanges at the Frontier with Kevin Marsh
Saturday 2 October, 11.00-12.30
Kevin Marsh is an expert in child malaria and Director of the
KEMRI-Wellcome Trust Research Programme in Kilifi, Kenya. He has worked
at the forefront of world malaria epidemiology for over 20 years. Join
him to find out more about the challenges of fighting tropical disease
in the heart of Africa, and his reasons for optimism in the face of
seemingly insurmountable odds.
Exchanges at the Frontier with Cynthia Kenyon
Friday 8 October, 15.00-16.30
Cynthia Kenyon is Professor of Biochemistry and Biophysics at the
University of California at San Francisco, and Director of the Hillblom
Center for the Biology of Aging. Her research on a microscopic worm has
shown that its lifespan can be extended up to six times through genetic
manipulation. She is now turning her attention towards the ageing
process in humans to improve our understanding of one of society's most
pressing issues. Join her to hear about her search for science's
fountain of youth.
I hope this of interest, it would be great to see many of you there.
Best wishes,
Jenny
