School was successful in the RAE, which acknowledged world-leading 
research in all departments, with 60% of research in the School being 
judged at least internationally excellent.

The Media and Communication department has a long-established reputation 
and offers exciting undergraduate and postgraduate courses covering 
advertising, communications, cultural studies, journalism, media, 
production and photography.

This is an opportunity for a proactive individual to further enhance 
their academic profile.

We are seeking an active practitioner with an established profile in 
photographic practice, curation or editorial. Applicants should be 
qualified to Masters Level, or be of equivalent professional status, and 
be able to demonstrate the ability to embrace the key debates framing 
the transformation and location of photography in contemporary culture 
and society.

The successful candidate will undertake teaching and curriculum 
development supporting the field of photography within the Department of 
Media & Communication and be actively engaged in professional practice, 
applied research and income generation in the broad area of photography.

The post-holder must have specialist knowledge of new/emerging modes of 
photographic practice, e.g. the utilisation of Open Media, the Web, 
social media and digital workflow models. We actively encourage 
applications from those candidates with expertise in gender issues, 
diversity and representation.

This post is required to cover the teaching duties of Dr Stefan 
Herbrechter, Reader in Media and Cultural Analysis, who has been awarded 
a prestigious visiting professorship to Heidelberg University.

The successful applicant will have a track record of teaching, research, 
scholarship in Media and Communication, with a focus in Cultural and 
Media Theory. They will undertake teaching, assessment and curriculum 
development on undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the broad field 
of Cultural, Communication and Media theory and methodology. Priority 
will be given to candidates with additional expertise in one or more of 
the following:

- Digital media, convergence and web studies, social media/web 2.0
- Gendered media, and/or feminist approaches
- Global/International media and media systems
- Media, cultural and creative industry policy
