A FREE one day course.

•	Why you should encourage your customers to play games in the library.
•	How you can start, staff and evaluate gaming events and clubs on any (or no!) budget.
•	How to use all sorts of games with boys and girls from 9-99 (and older and younger too!)

Across the Board will be a fun interactive day with presentations and practical workshops as well as an opportunity to sample a broad range of games and talk to the adults and young people who play them.

The course is FREE but please book early as places are strictly limited.

A FREE course about gaming in libraries and schools

Course Aims and Objectives:
*	How gaming fits into your offer for young people, families and adults.
*	How to start, staff and evaluate games clubs and activities on any (or no!) 
budget.
*	Gain a broad understanding of what is happening nationally and 
internationally.
*	Become confident talking to library users, colleagues and management about 
the benefits of games in libraries and schools.
Course Outline:
Presentations and practical workshops with the opportunity to ask questions and 
play some games.
Target Audience: 
Library and school staff who would like to investigate using games in their existing 
sessions or start new ones.

Because this is a FREE course lunch will not be provided. There are 
opportunities to buy food and drink both within the library and nearby.

McNicol, Independent Researcher.
10:15 – 11:15 Board with Learning? – Peter Johnston and members 
of Kirk Ireton C of E Primary School board games club.
11:15 – 11:30  Break.
11:30 – 12:30 Your Turn: practical session – Kirk Ireton board 
games club and staff from Spirit Games.
12:30-13:30 Lunch (not provided)
13:30 – 14:15 “Defeat the Book Thief!”: Designing a library 
instruction video game – Carl Cross, Derbyshire Libraries with 
contributions from The Long Eaton School.
14:15–15:15 “These are the Minis you’re Looking For”: running 
school games clubs using volunteers – Laurie Goulding.
15:15-15:30 Break
15:30 – 16:30 Are you Game? Bringing the day together and panel 
discussion.
16:45-18:00 Optional trip to Spirit Games. A short walk from town 
centre transport and on the way to the railway station.
