As part of the UNESCO decade of education for sustainable development and preparation for the UNCSD, Easrth Summit 2012, a welcome goes out to the UITP (don't ask, grep) challenge to double the use of public transport by 2025. This might also be part of the Future Transport 2050 of the EU.
One of the action lines is on the image of public transport in universities, which I'd extend to the concept of public transport, public goods, right across the whole research and teaching commitment.
Clearly the detail varies, in the centre of London it is probably impossible to double use, though I suspect the image could do with a lot, but you don't have to go beyond Manor Park to see that things need doing.
I'm opening up a design competition starting with Anglia Rusking at Chelmsford, and here at KU, and am looking for local champions to promote the uptake.
Libraries and librarians are an obvious starting point, for exhibitions of the competitions, resources, displays, and access to electronic materials.
Enthusiasts for public transport are saught.
