Dear All,
We are pleased to announce that revised editions of the Aberdeenshire, Moray and Angus Historic Environment Record (HER) databases have now been launched online.
The online HERs are available at: http://www.aberdeenshire.gov.uk/smrpub/default.aspx
The previous databases, online since 2003, only made basic summary information available to the public. The new editions have expanded on those summaries considerably as the HERs are now fully web hosted. Beyond all new updates to the HERs being posted live on the website, fully flexible text and interactive mapping searches are also now available to the public.
This new and improved online access to our 30,000 sites will allow all users greater freedom to explore the information we hold on the historic environment in the NE of Scotland. For the first time our fully polygonised GIS layer is now linked to the online mapping, allowing users to see the known site extents that we create for each record.
For the revised databases the structure of the data we hold has been altered in order to make it MIDAS compliant, with built-in data validation checks, event fields and site management modules that allow greater accuracy in the information being recorded for each site.
While the site management module is restricted from public access, all other data is largely as we see and use it in-house.
The next development phases include the digitisation and uploading of more site photographs, which will eventually be available for sale through the website, and the completion of our concordance work between our records and those held in the National Monument Record Scotland (NMRS).
All feedback and comments welcome!
Best wishes
