Hi,
The VO box that serves the non-LHC experiments at the RAL Tier1 is being retired and the service moved to new hardware. This change will take place on Thursday morning, 30th September.
The machine provides a nfs server for a number of VOs. The alias (sl3-lcg-exp.stage.rl.ac.uk) currently points to a system in the Atlas building at RAL. There will be a power outage in this building over the coming weekend. We will both provide continuity of service and migrate to newer hardware by moving the service to a machine in the R89 computer building.
The update itself will take place when the DNS alias (sl3-lcg-exp.stage.rl.ac.uk) is changed to point to the new server at 10am on Thursday morning. The new system has been synchronised with the old. A further synchronization will take place at the time of the switch over. However, VOs that make use of this service are asked not to update its contents between 09:00 and 11:00 on Thursday morning.
Once the switch-over has taken place the old server will remain up for a further 24 hours before being finally powered down.
