Job Description
Angus Council is updating its corporate Geographic Information System (GIS), which allows access to geographic based data and mapping to staff and pupils across the council using intranet and internet technologies.
Based at Angus House, Forfar, you will assist in the upgrade of the Corporate GIS and the co-ordination of the council's use of GIS-related information. You will help to develop, implement and manage robust procedures for geographic information and associated metadata as well as promoting best practice and standards. You will also contribute to the promotion of knowledge and understanding of geographic information within the council and identifying opportunities for integration with other business systems.
Requirements
You must have a degree or HND in a GIS-related discipline or IT equivalent, and knowledge of GIS data management, spatial data and metadata standards, preferably with experience of spatial databases. You must also have experience of GIS applications for digitising, map production and data visualisation. The ability to work as part of a team and unsupervised, good organisational and oral and written communication skills, and experience of Microsoft Office packages are essential.
Experience of using GIS tools such as FME, ArcGIS and MapStudio is desirable, as is experience of developing GIS applications using Arc Objects or Map Guide and .net. Experience of working with end user managers and third-party solution providers, such as Ordnance Survey and the One Scotland Mapping Agreement, is also desirable.
A full, current driving licence and access to a vehicle are essential.
The council operates a career grade for this job. Salary placing within the career grade will be dependant upon qualifications, experience, skills and competencies.
