Subject: AW: Kimberlites and mantle presentation session
Dearcolleagues,
We would like to inform you about following special session within
“Post-Gondwana geodynamics of Africa”at the 23rd Colloquium on African Geology
in Johannesburg at January 2011:
Session 4.3: Kimberlite magmatism in Africa
Kimberlite magmatism is related to many different petrological, mineralogical,
geochemical and geodynamic processes. Therefore we would like to invite
scientists from a wide range of interest and experience. Additionally, we would
like to invite oral- and poster presentations within UNESCO IGCP 557 entitled
“Diamonds, xenoliths and kimberlites: A window into the earth’s interior”.
Following topics are of interest:
- Diamond exploration and diamond preservation
- The formation and exploration of kimberlites
- Petrology of the deep Earth
- Water in nominally water free minerals and volatile transfer through the
earth mantle
- The formation of the continental crust
- Geodynamic processes in the Earth mantle
Invited speakers: Dr Hielke A. Jelsma (DeBeers) and Prof. Klaus Regenauer-Lieb
(University of Western Australia)
Conveners:
Prof. Fanus Viljoen, University of Johannesburg, [log in to unmask]
Dr. Holger Sommer, University of the Free State, [log in to unmask]
