Are there any early forms of the Somerset place-name Verneycaps ST093266?
Verneycaps is shown on the OS 1:2500 scale map of 1888. Nothing earlier is available at old-maps.co.uk, nor mention in Hill's PN Somerset.
It appears to be related to the Ravennas place-name Vernilis (PNRB "alder stream") and Hillfarrance Brook.
The element "caps" is curious, L capsus - an enclosure for animals, a pen? Thoughts?
