The MRC Epidemiology Unit undertakes research on the causes and prevention of diabetes and obesity, including - under the auspices of the Centre for Diet and Activity Research (CEDAR) - developing and evaluating interventions to change population physical activity patterns. We are now seeking a qualitative research associate to join our team working on the interdisciplinary quasi-experimental study Commuting and Health in Cambridge, with a focus on evaluating and understanding the impacts of new transport infrastructure on active travel, physical activity and public health. This post provides opportunities to work on existing data, to develop new research ideas and projects, and to establish collaborative links both within the MRC and across institutional and disciplinary boundaries. You will be the lead qualitative researcher for phase 3 of the study, taking primary responsibility for the collection and analysis of interview and other qualitative data from an established cohort of participants. You will have a Masters degree or doctorate and experience of qualitative research. A background in public health or a related social science would be an advantage.
The post is available from January 2011 for twelve months. It may be possible to extend the contract subject to additional funding, but this is not guaranteed. The starting salary will be in the range of £26,022 - £31,758 per annum. This is supported by a flexible pay and reward scheme. The post offers 30 days' annual leave and an optional MRC final salary Pension Scheme.
