Mairéad, I’d be sorry to see you go too. It’s in the nature of lists like this for topics to evolve and meander, and that’s what makes things so fascinating, especially if the initial topic was uninteresting—not that this one’s was.
I’ve often wondered if there are any women at all on this list apart from yourself and Alison. I’m sure there must be, and if so why do they never join in the discussions. It can’t be because they’re too intimidated, as I imagine some of them (perhaps the majority), like yourself, are in academia, which isn’t exactly a retiring profession.
Maybe, the topics that are volunteered for discussion simply don’t interest those women who are on the list. I don’t know. But it’s a pity, as Jamie says, that more women’s voices aren’t heard here. This can equally be said about the men who subscribe to the list but never make their presence known.
I think there are over a 150 subscribers to the list, but I’m only aware of about 8 or 9 regular posters. Where are the rest?

Thanks Jamie. I've been on this list a long time and have made plenty of contributions but can't even read it anymore. For poets you guys sure are long-winded. It's time for me to leave this list. I jumped into this thread only because I saw the words "Pierre" and "Turkey." I'm glad I did because I enjoyed Marcus's post.
