I cannot close this chapter yet. I am very sad.
It was only 6 days before his death when we worked together, as he did a locum shift in my hospital.
We talked about ultrasound (his area special interest and outstanding expertise) and other issues. It was so good working with him.
He was clear, competent, unpretentious, refreshingly direct and - so I believe - free of hidden agendas.
2 days before his death I got an email from him - truly one of kindest and most supportive professional emails I have ever received.
He won't read my reply anymore.
I will keep his email in a safe place.
Guy, I am a big fan of you - forever.

Rowley,
I heard form Evan. This is very sad news for Guy's family, for Emergency Medicine in Brighton and for the world of Emergency Medicine. Another sad loss for sure stops you in your tracks to contemplate your own mortality. It will be a difficult time for E. Med in Brighton but I am sure you will all cope in your own ways and that Guy's memory somehow will in time make the department a stronger place.
Guy Saunders RIP
