Administrative Assistant
Salary: circa £19k
Vacancy Type: Full-Time Position, 6 month fixed term contract
The Royal Institution (Ri) is an independent charity dedicated to increasing knowledge of, excitement for and involvement in science and technology for current and future generations through its public and young peoples' programmes, history of science activities and scientific research. Since its founding in 1799, the Ri has been located in Albemarle Street in the heart of Mayfair. There it has been at the forefront of scientific research and communication where figures including Humphry Davy, Michael Faraday, James Dewar, William Bragg, Lawrence Bragg and George Porter have researched, lectured and lived.
Fourteen Nobel Prize winners have been closely connected with the Royal Institution and the technological applications of discoveries made in the building from electromagnetism to molecular biology have fundamentally altered the way we live. The Royal Institution continues this tradition of excellence with fundamental scientific research on nanotechnology for healthcare, modern heritage and science displays, and its public and educational programmes including the yearly televised Christmas lectures.
The Ri wishes to appoint an individual to provide administrative support primarily for the Executive Assistant within the CEO's office, but also to undertake some work for the Fundraising and Membership team, the Programmes team and for the Head of Commercial Operations as required. The tasks undertaken will include but not be limited to: assisting in organising logistics for events, helping to create a solid information management system and generally ensuring the smooth administrative running of a mid-size charity. The ideal candidate will be an able, enthusiastic and conscientious person, interested in gaining experience within a charity passionate about the communication of science.
