Dear Anne Marie
There are very many pieces of statistical software out there, many of them
for free! The one that is being increasingly used at the moment, and can do
just about anything you want it to, is R:
http://www.r-project.org/
It's a free download. It's actually a software 'environment' which you have
to learn to script in, in order to make it do things, but there are plenty
of ways to learn to do that, and also many people on this list who are very
expert in it! It's extremely powerful, once you know how.
Of course, there's also Microsoft Excel, which many people who otherwise
don't like MS products at all have to admit is actually a very good
program. It's not free, of course, but many people have it already.
Beyond that, it depends what computer you have, and what kinds of analyses
you want to run. Can you say more?
Damien
