Dear all,
A 1-day meeting on 'Risk and Reliability Modelling of Energy Systems' will be held at Durham University, from 1000 to 1700 on Monday 15 November (refreshments available from 0930). The venue will be the Senate Suite at Durham Castle:
http://www.dur.ac.uk/event.durham/vrtours/castle/senate/ <https://exdurf.dur.ac.uk/exchweb/bin/redir.asp?URL=https://exdurf.dur.ac.uk/exchweb/bin/redir.asp?URL=http://www.dur.ac.uk/event.durham/vrtours/castle/senate/>
In addition to the spectacle of this venue, it is close to the railway station. A map is available at
http://www.dur.ac.uk/map/durham/ <https://exdurf.dur.ac.uk/exchweb/bin/redir.asp?URL=https://exdurf.dur.ac.uk/exchweb/bin/redir.asp?URL=http://www.dur.ac.uk/map/durham/>
(the Castle, University College, is number 23.)
There will be two invited speakers, the first on powerful general reliability assessment techniques and the potential for their use in energy systems, and the second on the state of the art risk modelling practices in the energy industry:
- John Andrews, Professor of Infrastructure Asset Management, Nottingham University: "Advanced system reliability assessment methods, and applications in the aerospace industry".
- The second invited speaker will be confirmed shortly, the likely topic being risk-based approaches to system integration of high wind generation capacities.
We are also inviting abstracts for further presentations; the day will include both full length 20 minute talks, and a series of shorter talks as a prelude to discussions over lunch (we aim to accept as many abstracts as possible.) If you would like to present, please email an abstract (max 200 words) to [log in to unmask] by Friday 8 October, including brief personal details (job title, affiliation and area of interest), and whether you would like a 20 minute slot / a shorter slot / either.
The day is being organised in conjunction with the Special Issue of the Journal of Risk and Reliability of the same title (deadline end January 2011). As well as being a scientific meeting in its own right, the day will also provide an opportunity to discuss possible JRR submissions with the Guest Editors.
The registration fee will be £30 for non-Durham delegates, with a £5 reduction for Durham delegates, to include lunch and all refreshments. Could non-Durham delegates please send a cheque for the fee, payable to Durham University, to Chris Dent, School of Engineering and Computing Sciences, Durham University, South Road, Durham DH1 3LE, UK; a receipt will be issued by email.
If you have any queries, please email Chris Dent ([log in to unmask] <mailto:[log in to unmask]> ).
Best regards,
Chris Dent
