Dear All
First, welcome to new members - our list seems to be growing nicely. You won't be inundated but people will post with information or asking for help/advice/information occasionally.
Two things:
1. there's a Goldberg Centre/BASW/MRC/NTA joint conference coming up on 23 September in London. Focus is on evidence-based practice in relation to substance use and implications for social work. We're lucky to have Prof Robin Davidson from Ireland coming over to talk about the evidence base and Diane Greenley from the USA who is going to talk about the 'recovery' movement - which is emerging in the substance use field at the moment, ie. recovery movement in the user empowerment, ecological approach sense rather than the AA use of the term. And lots of other folk too. Attached is flyer and updated programme. Feel free to forward to social work and social care colleagues too.
2. coming soon is a pocket guide for social workers on working with alcohol and drugs. It's going to be launched in PSW in the next issue in hard copy and will then be available to download from both BASW and Goldberg Centre websites. www.basw.co.uk/networks/alcdrugs or www.beds.ac.uk/goldbergcentre. Again keep your eyes peeled!
All the best
Sarah
