Hi Catherine
I look after a couple of housing associations and both have asked about this. The only group I consider are at the slightest risk are the housing maintenance teams as in one association they come into contact with all sorts, including used needles and syringes. This one has decided to go ahead, the other not.
The only other groups I may consider at risk are where you have those who are or previously have been drug users or who were in institutionalised care. However, staff need to be involved in personal care and hygiene for the risk to be significant and mostly in housing associations they are not.
Thanks
Lindsey

Subject: [OCC-HEALTH] Hep B vaccination
Can anyone provide any advice on administering the Hep B vaccination to employees in a housing association company? I do not feel the risks are high enough to administer to all employees as PPE is provided and so reduces the risks greatly. I have spoken to HSE and there are no hard and fast rules as to what type of industries need to provide it. When I was training I visited a sewage works in Birmingham who were being assessed at the time and were told they did not need to give their employees the vaccination. Any advice or information would be greatly appreciated as the company are offering it to everyone and I do not believe it is necessary.
Many thanks,
Cathryn Richardson
