Morning
We have just gone through a year long review of all the research out there on surgical smoke and risk assessed our own Trust and we have successfully put a business case forward to upgrade all smoke evacuators in our theatres to poartable units as the piped option was way over the other costs. The only implementation delay we are having is from the surgeons chosing their hand pieces. We also now use FFP masks in all cases where surgucal smoke is present and are adapting the laproscopy techniques to ensure that surgical spill inside the cavity is minimised. There was debatable research for a long time in this field but since the latter part of 2007, there has been a significant increase in good quality research.
Hope me ickle little comments helps.
