Have you considered using Flickr or Picasa?
You can add some keywords, and you can choose whether to make the images visible to the public or not as necessaary - and they come with integrated search facility, create RSS feeds etc.
Easy to grab links - and incredibly quick to set up...
You could always have a separate text-only database on your own system to record the exhibition details in a more structured way & then put the images together with that on a website later.
