Hello again Jiscmailers,
Delighted to see the discussion about the review of Jen Purcell's book....
now here is a bit more news, this time on much more recent MO material.
Last year, one of MO's most long-term researchers, Penny Summerfield, gave
a paper at a conference in Toulouse which was based on the Spring 2009 MO
Directive which she commissioned - 'The Second World War: what does it
mean to you?'. This has now been published online and you might like to
follow the link:

MIRANDA issue n°2, on Women and War (eds. Elizabeth de Cacqueray, Nathalie
Duclos, Karen Meschia).
Penny Summerfield, "Conflict, Power and Gender in Women's Memories of the
Second World War: a Mass-Observation Study", MIRANDA, 2, July 2010.
Penny first started using the early MO material for her research in the
1970s when she was a postgrad at Sussex and the Archive had only just been
set up at the University of Sussex (and I was in the early days of my job
looking after the Archive). She has returned to different aspects of the MO
collection over the years and she is now Professor of History at Manchester
University.
She would be pleased to have feedback (especially from current Mass
Observers and other researchers) on the Jiscmail discussion list.
Dorothy
