local debating forum) to present ‘The
<http://www.cilip.org.uk/get-involved/regional-branches/west-midlands/events
/pages/the-library-of-birmingham-who-is-it-for.aspx> Library Debate: what
are libraries for?’
Brian Gambles, Assistant Director, Culture, Birmingham City Council, will
introduce what we hope will be a lively debate involving local librarians
along with the people in the city who make use of public library services
(and indeed, those who do not). Andrew Killeen, local author, will respond
to Brian before the debate moves to the floor.
What do we, as library and information workers, really know about general
public perceptions of the new Library of Birmingham's plans? Many of us will
have seen the architectural plans for the new library building. Did you know
that there is a significant body of opposition to the destruction of the
current library building?
Come and have your say, and find out what Birmingham people really think
about 21st century public libraries.
Date: Wednesday 22 September
Venue: The Studio, Cannon Street, Birmingham, B2 5EP
Time: 6.45pm drinks reception. Debate runs from 7.30pm to 9.00pm
Price on the door: £5 (if in full-time employment)
