I'm unsurprised that this platform has not turned out to be particularly great, and I can confirm that many other publishers have handled article level login elegantly with SAML. To be fair to Wiley I know that there were early testers of the system from a shib perspective. It would be useful to hear from them as to the experience.

'Months and years'??
I have to admit, I'm disappointed with this new platform. It isn't obvious what you do when you log in and the screen looks cluttered. The log in issues are really a poor show when you consider what other revamps have been able to do. And yes, it is a pain to set up article linking again when it breaks down.
I too have emailed our account manager and am awaiting his response with interest. I'm surprised this issue wasn't spotted during the beta testing process to be honest.

Dominic is right about the confusion caused to users. What really upsets me is to think of all the work which libraries have done to create title-level links in their catalogues, and using article-level linking through resolvers, only for it be undermined by Wiley's login process which dumps us back at the login screen.
Following my earlier post I had a message from our account manager (thanks, Julian) which said amongst other things: "the technical team have confirmed to me that your comments have been noted (and indeed the comments of others re: Shibboleth) and that we will factor them in to future enhancements...The functionality of the Wiley Online Library will evolve over the coming months and years and enhancements will be made to the platform"
So that's alright then...
Ian
